Via Architecture and Aegis Senior Living will present a proposal for a development at 3^rd Ave. W. and W. Galer which will contain street level retail and two or three additional levels of senior housing. This project is going to Design Review in October.

I wrote July instead of June in the previous announcement. The meeting will be this Wednesday.

The Queen Anne Community Council's Transportation Committee will meet Wednesday, June 29 at 7:30 PM at QA Manor, 100 Crockett Street.

There will be a regular open forum at the beginning of the meeting for neighbors to bring forth any local transportation or traffic concerns. We will also discuss the upcoming County levy to raise license tab fees to support transit.

Seattle – Seattle City Councilmember Sally Bagshaw invites the public to review and provide feedback on possible models of operation for Seattle's community centers.

Over the last six months, an internal working group and a Community Center Advisory Team have examined current uses and developed a menu of options for sustainable, long term system operations for Seattle's community centers. This study was in response to the Council's Statement of Legislative Intent 101-1-A-1, from last year's budget process.

May 20, 2011 (Seattle, WA) – Seattle Department of Neighborhoods seeks your input on its community outreach and engagement activities. In line with its mission of civic participation, the department is asking community members for their feedback and ideas on how it can most effectively provide support to the community. The Queen Anne Community Council's Transportation Committee will meet this Wednesday, May 25, 7:30 pm, Queen Anne Manor, 100 Crockett Street.

We will discuss transportation issues affecting this area, including proposed reduction in th 2X bus schedule, upcoming traffic studies, and items of interest to our neighbors.

We meet in the Queen Anne Manor's dining room. Enter on the Crockett side of the building. There is a free parking lot as well as street parking. Sign in at the reception desk.
Proceed to the right down the hall and then left to the main dining room. The private dining room is at the rear. When you leave the meeting, we ask that you exit the building and not linger in the halls so the residents are not disturbed.

The Queen Anne Community Council's Transportation Committee will meet Wednesday, April 27 at 7:30 PM at QA Manor, 100 Crockett Street.

Shall the Committee ask the Community Council Board to endorse increasing the capacity of the turn-pocket on Elliott at Mercer Place? This was alternative 5 on SDOT recent presentation and showed the most improvement in traffic flow for the least amount of money. Come and discuss it with us.

Queen Anne Neighbors for Responsible Growth

RE: Queen Anne Farmers Market

After a very successful year in 2010, the Queen Anne Farmers Market (QAFM) is looking forward to its 2011 Grand Opening on Thursday, June 2. After four years of operation, a new vision of the market calls for putting in place measures that will insure long-term sustainability of this popular community resource.

Much of the success of the market so far has been due to the passion, devotion, and commitment of Julie Whitehorn. But with success come changes, which means for the coming 2011 season, Queen Anne Neighbors for Responsible Growth (QANRG), the fiscal sponsor of the market, will assume overall responsibility for the market, and will be and implementing a new management team. Julie may serve as a consultant, utilizing her knowledge and experiences for those market activities in which she has been so successful in past seasons.

As part of this new vision, a new QAFM Advisory Board is being formed, consisting of a broad representation from the Queen Anne community. The Board's main function will be to develop, recommend, and implement plans for the long-term health of the market, including financial self-sufficiency and adapting to the needs and desires of the community as necessary.

The Seattle Office of Economic Development (OED) has oversight responsibility for the farmers markets in the city and has provided invaluable leadership and support for these changes for the QAFM. Without OED's guidance and support, this would not have been possible.

Fwd: Mercer Corridor Project: Weekend Closures of I-5 on- and off-ramps at Mercer St. Coming this Spring

Dear Queen Anne Community Council,

As part of Phase 1 of the Mercer Corridor Project, The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) anticipates the need for approximately twenty full weekend closures of the I-5 on- and off-ramps at Mercer Street over the course of the project, which is scheduled for completion in 2013. The first closures are tentatively scheduled to begin this spring.

Weekend closures will occur from Friday at 11:00 p.m. to Monday at 5:00 a.m. Specific dates will be announced as soon as they are available. Closures are being closely coordinated with other construction and special events in the area, including activities at the Seattle Center.

Ramp closures are required for utility installations on Fairview Ave. N at Mercer St., including water, sewer, electrical and communications line installations, as well as to align the existing on- and off-ramps with future westbound lanes of Mercer St. Fairview Ave. N will also be closed between Mercer St. and Valley St. during ramp closures.

Detour routes will be clearly marked and will direct travelers to the I-5 on- and off-ramps at Stewart St. and Olive Way. Travelers are encouraged to carpool and use alternate modes of transportation. Transit information can be found at:

This Thursday at noon Craig Hanway and John Coney will present the
recommendations of the recent planning Charrette for the Uptown
Triangle. These blocks bounded by Denny, Broad, and Aurora will become
much more accessible after the deep bore tunnel north portal street
realignments are completed in 2016.

The presentation is at the GGLO
Architecture space which is located on the north side of Harbor Steps
(across from SAM on 1st Ave. downtown.) The glass doors are 1/4 of the
way down the steps from 1st.

The goal of the recommendations is to
encourage the probable redevelopment of these blocks into a more
residential, family-oriented, transit-served, bike and pedestrian-friendly neighborhood.

It will be important to hear comments at this time.

Dear Community Partners,

With the adoption of the 2011-2012 City Budget in November, Seattle Department of Neighborhoods (DON) is in the process of making changes to our programs and services, namely, the Neighborhood District Coordinators Program and the Neighborhood Service Centers (NSCs). Effective January 4, 2011, three Neighborhood District Coordinator positions will be cut and as of December 30, six Neighborhood Service Centers will close. These resources, staff, and facilities have been heavily utilized by community members such as yourself over the years, enhancing your connection to City government.

As part of the budget process, Seattle City Council developed a Statement of Legislative Intent (SLI) requesting the Mayor to respond to questions about DON's outreach and engagement work, specifically identifying a reconfiguration plan of the Neighborhood District Coordinator Program. The Mayor will involve DON, the community, and other stakeholders in providing a response to the SLI which is due to City Council by July 1, 2011.

The changes in budget require a change in DON's short-term and long-term approach to serving the greater Seattle community; therefore, while the SLI response is being developed, an interim service model has been designed and will be implemented beginning January 5, 2011. The model is described below:

Neighborhood District Coordinators (NDC) Interim Service Model:

The 10 NDCs will serve the city through a team approach over three large geographic areas:

· The South area consists of 4 districts (Southeast, Greater Duwamish, Delridge and Southwest) and will be served by the South Team (NDCs - Ron Angeles, Steve Louie, Yun Pitre, and Ed Pottharst).

· The Central area consists of 5 districts (Central, East, Downtown, Lake Union and Magnolia/Queen Anne) and will be served by the Central Team (NDCs - Christa Dumpys, Tim Durkan, and Stan Lock).

· The North area consists of 4 districts (Northeast, North, Northwest, and Ballard) and will be served by the North Team (NDCs - Karen Ko, Rob Mattson, and Beth Pflug).

The remaining Neighborhood Service Centers are being reorganized for drop-in work space for the NDCs. They will also have drop-in work space in DON's offices at the Seattle Municipal Tower.

The new team approach to serving neighborhoods and community partners is intended to continue providing the connection between you and the City. However, due to the fact that there are three fewer NDCs, there will be a decrease in the amount of time or depth of efforts any particular NDC will be able to spend with you and your group.

As we stated in the beginning of this letter, the six non-payment Neighborhood Service Centers (Greater Duwamish, Downtown, East, Lake Union, Queen Anne/Magnolia and Northwest) are closing as of December 30, 2010. One of the impacts of this loss is free meeting space. Neighborhood District Coordinators have been and will continue to be a resource for assisting community groups in finding alternate community meeting space.

A "Frequently Asked Questions" document is attached with information on how community members will be served by the interim service model.

Change can be difficult, and although the City overall and DON specifically, must make changes based on the reduction in budget, Seattle Department of Neighborhoods remains committed to the community and to supporting and empowering community members to engage with City government for the benefit of their neighborhoods.

Dear Honorable Mayor Michael McGinn & Honorable Council President Richard Conlin:

I am writing with regard to the disturbing news that your office is proposing to all but close the Queen Anne Community Center. I'm sure you know I understand very well the dire budget situations we both face in the City and the State, but I must speak strongly against any plans to reduce services and hours for this facility that is so vital to my district and the Queen Anne community.

Over 60 years ago, the Queen Anne Fieldhouse was specifically built by the City as the center for community to gather, organize, and recreate. All these decades since, generations of Queen Anne residents have used that space intensively, and anyone who has lived here long enough has many fond memories of times within its walls. Today, the center is still used to capacity, and remains a vibrant and essential part of this neighborhood. If you are unsure, drop in anytime the center is open. Look around at the activity and ask the people there how much they use the facilities and what it means to them. It means a lotour community has opened a "Save Queen Anne Gym" Facebook page and gathered over 1000 signatures on the petition to save our center.

My office continues to receive calls from distressed constituents, all hoping there is something I can do. But it is in your hands. As I stated, I understand as well as anyone how difficult these times are and how many difficult and unpopular decisions need to be made. This should not be one of those decisions. The decision here needs to be a renewed and firm commitment to funding and staffing for this Queen Anne community institution. However, if indeed reductions are made, then I strongly believe you should be equitable in your decision-making and spread such reductions among all the community centers in the City. In times like these, a community needs its backbone and its heart. The Queen Anne Community Center is exactly that for us.

Metro is facing a cumulative deficit of more than a billion dollars over the next five years and expects to cut more than 600,000 hours of bus service in response. Nearly one-fifth of all bus service may be eliminated.

To respond to this crisis, the Council and Executive convened a regional task force of transit stakeholders and experts to examine the current system and recommend major changes. After seven months of work, the task force is ready to present their findings.

The Land Use Review and Planning Committee will meet on Monday, October 18^th, at 7:00 PM at the QA Community Center.

UNICO Properties will present a building project proposed for 16^th Ave. W. & W. Dravus St. in Interbay. This is the first major project proposed since the city approved an upzone in this area. The project will fill about two-thirds of a city block and have over 100 apartment units, in addition to street front retail.

Seattle City Council seeks resident feedback at budget public hearings

Seattle – The City of Seattle faces a general fund deficit for 2011, meaning there are some very difficult decisions to be made in the weeks to come. As the City Council works to balance the Seattle's 2011-2012 budget, considerable input from residents is needed to develop a budget that best reflects the needs of our city.

The Seattle City Council invites you to participate in this year's budget process by attending one of the two upcoming public hearings held in South or Central Seattle:

My Friends and Fellow Community Council Members,

We all signed up to become volunteers because we believed and cared
about the Queen Anne Community. Every person has a individual cause,
and the potential closure of the Queen Anne Gym is an issue that
personally effects me and the people of Queen Anne. I feel the need to
do more as a resident and educate my neighbors and friends about the
mayor's proposed cut.

After our meeting on Wednesday, I put together the follow call to
action and asking you as residents to take action.

This is not letter from the community council that we spoke about in
our meeting. Separately, I will work with Ellen to prepare and letter
that will come from us as a team.

Any time, effort that you can give to the cause will be greatly appreciated.

Save the Community Center Gym

Spread the word and save the gym for our community and its original purpose!

Today the Queen Anne Community Center is home to 22 basketball teams as well as many other after school programs, youth indoor soccer, volleyball, and senior sports. This facility is also considered an emergency shelter for our community should residents need one. This venue is the heart of Queen Anne and a public venue--not a commercial rental space.

The Mayor has made his choice to cut, and now the Seattle City Council needs to hear our voices to reverse the proposed closing of the gym. Please reach out to the Seattle City Council. We need you to call, write, email the members (the more the better!) explaining what the community center and gym means to your family and our community.

ACTIONS You can take to make a difference in our community and save the Queen Anne Gym:
