Fwd: Transit Changes

Please join Larry Phillips for a special town hall meeting focusing on the transit system.

Metro is facing a cumulative deficit of more than a billion dollars over the next five years and expects to cut more than 600,000 hours of bus service in response. Nearly one-fifth of all bus service may be eliminated.

To respond to this crisis, the Council and Executive convened a regional task force of transit stakeholders and experts to examine the current system and recommend major changes. After seven months of work, the task force is ready to present their findings.

This town hall meeting will be your chance to hear directly from task force members on what they are recommending. After the briefing, you will have a chance to provide public testimony on what you think should be done.

Tuesday, November 9, 6:30-8:00 p.m., Seattle University, Campion Ballroom, 914 E Jefferson St, Seattle, WA 98122

FW: Queen Anne Community Center

Dear Council Member,

The attached letter states the feelings of the Queen Anne Community Council with regards to the proposed changes in the operations of the Queen Anne Community Center.  The Council and the entire Queen Anne Community was very upset about the proposed rental and decreased hours of the QA Community Center.  And now that the rental is off the table, a veiled threat has been made that even more draconian actions might be taken

The Queen Anne community needs and wants to keep the Community Center open and serving the varied needs of our community.

BIZKID$ WILL NOT PARTNER

WITH SEATTLE PARKS AND RECREATION

BizKid$ has chosen to withdraw from a proposed partnership that would have rented part of Queen Anne Community Center to the television production company. The company will not move into Queen Anne Community Center as had been planned.

Seattle Parks and Recreation had reached out to BizKid$ and proposed a partnership that would have expanded revenue to continue Parks and Recreation programs, and expand financial literacy for children in the Queen Anne neighborhood and throughout the City.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 8, 2010

Seattle City Council seeks resident feedback at budget public hearings

Seattle – The City of Seattle faces a general fund deficit for 2011, meaning there are some very difficult decisions to be made in the weeks to come.  As the City Council works to balance the Seattle's 2011-2012 budget, considerable input from residents is needed to develop a budget that best reflects the needs of our city.

The Seattle City Council invites you to participate in this year's budget process by attending one of the two upcoming public hearings held in South or Central Seattle:

Wednesday, October 13

The Brockey Center at South Seattle Community College

6000 16th Avenue SW, 98106

5:30 p.m. Public Hearing (5 p.m. Sign-in)

**We will have Mandarin and American Sign Language interpreters available at the Oct. 13 budget hearing.

Tuesday, October 26

Seattle City Hall

Council Chambers, 2nd floor

600 Fourth Avenue, 98104

5:30 p.m. Public Hearing (5 p.m. Sign-in)

Budget documents are translated into Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, Somali, Spanish, and Tagalog and are available online at http://seattle.gov/council/translated_docs.htm.   If you are planning on attending one of our budget hearings and need interpretation assistance, please call 206-684-8888.

If you can't make it to a budget hearing, please share your ideas online:

·         Visit our IdeaScale page at seattlecitycouncil.ideascale.com. Here you can share, comment and vote for ideas on how to balance the budget, with the most essential ideas rising to the top. We are continuously reviewing this feedback and will respond to the most popular ideas.

  • Submit your thoughts about the budget using our online comment form. Emails received will be tallied and shared with each Councilmember to keep them updated on issues important to you.

For more information on Seattle's budget, visit http://www.seattle.gov/council/budget/

Seattle City Council meetings are cablecast and Webcast live on Seattle Channel 21 and on the City Council's website. Copies of legislation, Council meeting calendar, and archives of news releases can be found on the City Council website. Follow the Council on Twitter and on Facebook.

Fwd: Queen Anne Community Center - Gym

My Friends and Fellow Community Council Members,

We all signed up to become volunteers because we believed and cared
about the Queen Anne Community. Every person has a individual cause,
and the potential closure of the Queen Anne Gym is an issue that
personally effects me and the people of Queen Anne. I feel the need to
do more as a resident and educate my neighbors and friends about the
mayor's proposed cut.

After our meeting on Wednesday, I put together the follow call to
action and asking you as residents to take action.

This is not letter from the community council that we spoke about in
our meeting. Separately, I will work with Ellen to prepare and letter
that will come from us as a team.

Any time, effort that you can give to the cause will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for you consideration,
Jim

Save the Community Center Gym

Spread the word and save the gym for our community and its original purpose!

Today the Queen Anne Community Center is home to 22 basketball teams as well as many other after school programs, youth indoor soccer, volleyball, and senior sports. This facility is also considered an emergency shelter for our community should residents need one. This venue is the heart of Queen Anne and a public venue--not a commercial rental space.

The Mayor has made his choice to cut, and now the Seattle City Council needs to hear our voices to reverse the proposed closing of the gym. Please reach out to the Seattle City Council. We need you to call, write, email the members (the more the better!) explaining what the community center and gym means to your family and our community.

ACTIONS You can take to make a difference in our community and save the Queen Anne Gym:

1. Call/email a Council member http://www.seattle.gov/council/councilcontact.htm

2. Join the Facebook Group: Save the Queen Anne Gym
http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/group.php?gid=106045576124768

3. Save the date! Join us for one of the remaining two public hearings, WEAR RED to show our solidarity and bring signs that read "We Want Queen Anne Gym!":
Wed. Oct. 13@5:30pm, The Brockery Center at South Seattle Community College, 600
Tues. Oct. 26@5:30pm, Seattle City Hall, Council Chambers, 2nd floor, 600 4th Ave.
4. Attend a budget committee meeting at council chambers and speak during public comment. Don't forget to WEAR RED! Next three budget committee hearings are on Oct. 15, Oct. 19 and Oct. 20.
5. Vote on Ideascale, the council's web site to gather comments and ideas from the people.
