Seattle City Council
Seattle, WA
Dear Council Member Rasmussen:
The Queen Anne Community Council urges that Mercer Street east of Aurora Avenue N retain four eastbound traffic lanes, at least until John, Thomas, and Harrison Streets are open for vehicular traffic across Aurora.
The “Mercer Mess” is best known for its eastbound delays. These delays are a source of pollution (particulate and greenhouse gas), frustration, stress, and delays for freight movement. The traffic delays are also cited as the reason for the scant transit service in the corridor.
Traffic across Aurora via the three aforementioned streets may obviate the need for retaining existing capacity, but not for several years, assuming that the Bored Tunnel project is completed. Perhaps at that time, thee southernmost lane of Mercer Street can be allocated for parking, and curb bulbs installed. But in the interim we join with the Port of Seattle in urging that existing eastbound capacity of Mercer Street not be reduced.
Sincerely,
Ellen Monrad

Folk Park Letter

Washington State Department of Natural Resources

To Whom It May Concern:
The Queen Anne Community Council strongly supports the efforts of Friends of Lower Kinnear Park (FOLKpark) to obtain “Opportunity Fund” monies for the construction of the improvements described in the Lower Kinnear Park Enhancement Plan.
Kinnear Park has a unique place in Seattle’s history as the first park planted in the City, and in 2002 gained Landmark status. This park is a valued treasure for residents and visitors alike.
We endorse the primary objectives of FOLKpark:
To bring more people into the park with compatible active and passive uses
To enhance the park’s natural setting of an urban forest
To tell its unique story as one of Seattle’s first parks.
As evidence of our commitment, we will continue our work with Folkpark in their outreach with the many interest groups who use this park.
Sincerely,
Ellen Monrad
Chair, QACC
